On 14th of November 1940, the Greek Army launched an counter offensive along the whole Greek-Italian Front. To support the attack, the Royal Hellenic Air Force made a maximum effort to disrupt the Italian supply lines as much as possible.
Three Blenheims of 32 Moira ( Squadron) were started for the Front but one stuck in the mud and failed to take off. The remaining two attacked the airfield at Koritza. Right after the bombs released, the "B254" flown by Capt. Dim. Papageorgiou received a direct AA hit and disintegrated mid air, killing everyone on board. The "B253", flown by Capt. Pan. Orphanidis, also got damaged by the same explosion and then attacked by three Italian Cr.42s of 393 Squadriglia. Despite being badly damaged, the aircraft made it to the Sedes airbase, but only under the constant fire of Serg. Magg. Walter Ratticchieri in his Cr.42, who followed the wounded Blenheim up to the Thermaikos Gulf area! He left 165 holes on the bomber and a wounded gunner, Sgt. Sotiriadis.
